Smart Home Inventory, Inc. FAQ

Why do I need your service?

Our service helps to insure that you receive the proper settlement from your insurance company at the time of a claim. The digital photos will help to identify your property for your police department, in the event of theft. Plus it is of great value for estate purposes, secondary or vacation homes or if you plan to move or place your property in storage.

How will you document my personal property?

We will complete a spreadsheet itemizing all necessary items using descriptions, serial and/or model numbers or other pertinent information to better identify your property. Additionally we will make a video of the contents of your entire home and take as many digital photos as needed for proper documentation.

How will you help me at the time of a claim?

At the time of a claim, we can provide via E-mail or regular mail to your insurance company or police department, the written and photographic record of the property that we documented. If you reported a claim and if the original information we provided was lost or destroyed as a result of the claim, we will provide you with an additional copy.

Is there a charge to update my information?

Under our Full Service Program, there are no charges for updates for one full year.

What condition does my home have to be in for your appointment?

Children, pets, toys, etc., are no problem. We are there to document your personal property only. No need to change your everyday life style for us.

What do I need to have available for your appointment?

It would be beneficial to have your homeowners policy available so we can properly document any item that is appraised and listed on your policy and any pertinent receipts. This will help us to determine if an item should be added to your policy that isn't listed on it now.

What items should I document?

We suggest you document all your personal property in your home but especially items such as fine furniture and antiques, collectibles, art, musical instruments, imported carpets or wall coverings, etc., plus any appraised property already listed on your present policy.
